Spring 2020 Update

UpdatedMonday May 4, 2020 bySilver State Cal Ripken.

Dear Silver State Families,

We hope this email finds you well during this difficult time. We are all making adjustments daily.

We regret to inform you all that the board has made the difficult decision to cancel our Spring 2020 Silver State Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth season. For weeks now, we have been referencing the CDC website, Babe Ruth Inc., Washoe County Parks, orders from the Governor's office, and other youth sports organizations, to be able to come to the most informed decision for our league. We did not come to this decision lightly. We have been waiting for the most recent order from the Governor, hoping we would be allowed to have a season in the foreseeable future but with no obvious end in sight, we had to make a definitive decision.  Bummer, we could all use a good baseball game, right?!

At this time, we ask that you be patient and understanding of the board. We are all volunteers and this is an incredible amount of stress added onto our already stressful personal lives. We are all struggling! We are in a unique situation that is uncharted for any youth sports organization. It's very difficult to balance refunds with keeping our league feasible for the foreseeable future. It is your SSCR board’s responsibility to oversee and make difficult but responsible choices for the league as a whole.

Registration fees have been used to pay for uniforms, the charter with Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth, insurance, permits, utilities, and other miscellaneous costs. None of which are refundable. Since we were so close to starting the regular season, much of that registration money had already been spent on the listed items, therefore the league cannot offer 100% refunds.

We understand that many of our families are struggling financially. This being said, we are offering partial refunds to families who request them. The non refundable fees incurred by the league will be deducted from the refund amount. Partial refunds are individual to players, based on their registration fees paid, taking into consideration the costs associated with the division, and any other applicable discounts or late fees. In order to receive a refund, we are asking that you complete this online form: https://forms.gle/h9GwMfBPX1dVei9w5 by May 14th, to formally request a refund. This includes the Babe Ruth Division. If you do not complete the form by May 14th, we will assume that you would like to make a tax deductible donation of your registration fee to the league.

If you choose to forgo a refund, we ask that you also fill out the online form, and select  "donate registration". Any players/families who choose to donate their registration will be eligible for a discount on future registration (discount TBD). SSCR would greatly appreciate it if you choose this option. Your donated money will offset some of the start up costs for next season and also assist us with paying any outstanding balances the league has for the remainder of this season.

Anyone with outstanding chocolate money will NOT receive a refund unless the balance is paid in full prior to the May 14th deadline. Also, those players will not be eligible to register for future seasons until that balance is paid in full. Keep in mind, the league paid for all of the chocolate up front and currently we have $3000 in outstanding chocolate money. If you have full, undamaged, and unopened boxes, you may return them to the league. Unfortunately opened boxes CANNOT be returned.

Any player that has not received this season's uniform will receive it as soon as it is safe to do so and as long as your account is in good standing.

Again, please be patient with us. Please contact us via email or DM with any questions or concerns. Comments are easy to miss on Facebook and we may not see them.

Thank you for your patience and support. Questions can be emailed to info@sscrbaseball.com. We are all looking forward to the time when we can be out playing baseball on the fields again.

Stay Safe!

Sincerely, Your SSCR Board
